Buckle up for an explosive and time altering film. The Touchstone Pictures film introduced the post-Hurricane Katrina, New Orleans to the world. Some audiences might find something of interest here but I've been spoiled by cult gems like Primer.Denzel Washington and Tony Scott reunited for 2006’s Déjà Vu which was their third film together and second with Disney and producer Jerry Bruckheimer. I wasn't expecting a lot from a big budget sci fi film but I thought Scott might've salvaged something. The premise grows tired the longer it plays out and that conclusion falls in the cliche safety model. The support cast is vast and it was interesting to see Val Kilmer finding his way back to Tony Scott. Washington brings strength to a thankless role and he stands above everyone here. Washington would've been drawn to the material by the money and Scott's connection, as the two had worked together over the years. The film feels content and it's just another thriller disguised as something else. The issue with Deja Vu is the lack of clever and inventive ideas. Tony Scott made great looking films and when he was able to connect with the material he made strong films. Rating: PG-13 (Intense Violence and Terror|Disturbing Images|Some Sensuality)ĭeja Vu is an uneven film and it struggles to separate itself from the many ideas thrown into the mix.
